Eye-to-eye with 150 species
At GaiaZOO, you will meet more than 150 different animal species. The animal collection consists of unique and rare species. Discover lions, giraffes, gorillas, rhinos, red pandas, wolverines and many more.
A large proportion of the animals in GaiaZOO are members of an EEP management programme. This involves cooperation with dozens of other European zoos.

At GaiaZOO, the animals live in spacious, vegetated enclosures so they can exhibit their natural behaviour. Unable to see an animal? Take your time to look around, enjoy yourself and you’ll discover animals in the most surprising places.

EEP management programme
Many animal species are endangered in the wild. Some species do still live in zoos. If necessary, an EEP (EAZA Ex situ Program) can help maintain the wild population. For instance: The wolverine is one of nearly 50 animal species in GaiaZOO participating in an EEP breeding programme.
Old cellphones
GaiaZOO collects old cell phones to help gorillas in central Africa. In the photo, a primary school from Kerkrade hands over a huge number of mobile phones to GaiaZOO!
Przewalski horses
Przewalski horses (which became extinct in the wild in 1968) have been reintroduced to their original habitat thanks to zoo breeding. Some foals born at GaiaZOO also left for naturalising projects in recent years.
Gaia Nature Fund
GaiaZOO runs a special nature conservation foundation: Gaia Nature Fund. This foundation provides financial support to various projects that protect nature and animals around the world, including the African painted dog.
